Cheryl Mazzeo - Education Dissertation Proofreader & Coach
Hello, and welcome! I'm Cheryl, an educator, researcher, and dissertation proofreader who specializes in supporting doctoral students in education and related social science fields.
My professional background spans higher education teaching, clinical research, academic writing, and student mentoring. Over the course of my career, I have taught courses in education, psychology, biology, anatomy and physiology, bioinformatics, and computer science, giving me a broad perspective on both educational practice and research. I hold master's degrees in biomedical science, bioinformatics, and science education, as well as both an EdD and a PhD in progress.
In addition to my teaching experience, I have conducted research and worked within leading academic medical institutions, including Weill Cornell Medicine, Rutgers University, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. My experience as both a researcher and educator allows me to understand the challenges doctoral students face when translating complex ideas, data, and findings into clear academic writing.
My doctoral research reflects the range of methodologies I support. My EdD research examined artificial intelligence use among public health undergraduates, while my PhD research focused on quality of life outcomes among patients with gastrointestinal cancers. Through these experiences, I developed expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research design, data analysis, and scholarly writing.
As a dissertation editor, I help students strengthen the clarity, organization, and coherence of their work while ensuring alignment among research questions, methodology, findings, and conclusions. I regularly assist students with dissertation chapters, capstone projects, literature reviews, journal manuscripts, research proposals, and doctoral assignments.
I understand that completing a dissertation requires more than strong writing skills. It involves critical thinking, careful planning, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. My goal is to provide practical, individualized support that helps students move confidently through the dissertation process while maintaining ownership of their research and voice as scholars.
I write and edit in American English and follow APA style conventions, including the Oxford comma.

What is education dissertation proofreading?
Education dissertation proofreading is the final review stage before submission. Its purpose is to identify and correct minor errors that remain after all content revisions have been completed. Proofreading focuses on polishing the dissertation so it appears professional, accurate, and ready for evaluation.
A proofreader checks for issues such as:
-
Grammar and spelling errors
-
Punctuation mistakes
-
Typographical errors
-
Formatting inconsistencies
-
APA citation and reference formatting issues
Proofreading also helps ensure consistency throughout the dissertation. This includes checking headings, page numbers, tables, figures, abbreviations, and terminology so that the document follows a uniform style and meets university formatting requirements.
Unlike substantive editing, proofreading does not revise arguments, reorganize chapters, or evaluate the quality of the research. Instead, it serves as a final quality-control step that helps eliminate distracting errors and improves the overall presentation of the dissertation.
For education doctoral students, proofreading can provide confidence that their dissertation is polished, professional, and ready for submission, allowing committee members to focus on the research rather than avoidable writing mistakes.
